Birkdale Village Selected by NAHB as Winner in 2003 "Pillars of the Industry" Awards Competition

Charlotte, N.C. (April 1, 2003) – The joint venture team of Crosland, Inc. and Pappas Properties, LLC has received the coveted 2003 Pillars of the Industry Award as a result of Birkdale Village in Huntersville, N.C., being judged the best mixed-use development in America by The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

The Pillars of the Industry Awards recognize excellence in multifamily development, design, marketing and management. A team of 13 independent judges selected Birkdale Village as the winner from more than 30 other mixed-use developments located around the country. The award was presented on March 24 to Crosland representatives Jud Little, president of the Apartments Division, and David Ravin, V.P. and senior development manager for The Apartments at Birkdale Village, at the 12^th annual awards gala in Boca Raton, Florida.

"The development of Birkdale Village required a team effort of retail, office and multifamily team members and partners. As a result of this cooperative effort, we were able to successfully integrate multiple design elements despite the complexity involved. Judges for the NAHB indicated that Birkdale Village has set a new standard. Judges were particularly impressed with the high quality of open spaces at Birkdale Village, the successful integration of different real estate product uses, and the charming environment that offers such an inviting lifestyle experience. "Birkdale Village has raised the national bar for apartment living," they concluded.

NAHB created the Pillars of Industry Awards program in 1990 to honor superior achievement and leadership in the multifamily industry and to promote the benefits of apartment living. Since then, the Pillars have gained the reputation as the industry’s most coveted awards and are considered a showcase of innovation and future trends. A record number of entries were received and winners who will be featured in Multifamily Trends magazine were named at a ceremony on March 24, 2003.
