Continuing the company’s expansion throughout the Southeast, Sittema will focus on the Nashville/middle Tennessee region. Crosland is currently co-developing the largest open-air retail center in middle Tennessee, and opened a Nashville office in May with the acquisition of Armistead Barkley. In addition to Tennessee, Sittema will pursue development opportunities in Greenville, S.C. where The Shops at Greenridge recently celebrated its grand opening, and the coastal region in cities such as Charleston, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, where the company is expanding its anchor in The Plaza at Shelter Cove.
The addition of this newly created position bears witness to the growth of Crosland’s retail division. Over the past five years, Crosland has doubled its asset base and has over 4 million square feet of retail space completed or currently under development. Their current development pipeline has a value approaching $300 million. This year they have entered new markets such as Nashville, Tenn.; Greenville, S.C.; and the Outer Banks of North Carolina and have acquired four sites in central Florida.
“Crosland’s continued success in diversifying our assets and expanding in the Southeast is closely linked to the caliber of associates we attract,” said Peter B. Pappas, retail division president. “With his entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated background in relationship management, Tim is a strong complement to Crosland’s retail development team.”
A 20-year industry veteran, Sittema most recently served as president for Sittema Properties, Inc., in Colorado. He specialized in retail development projects in the Rocky Mountain states including assemblage projects for large format retailers such as Lowe’s Home Improvement and several other anchor tenants. Previously he was a managing partner for Sittema-Bullock Realty Partners and marketing principal for Trammell Crow Company.
Notable retail projects that Sittema developed recently include the development of Powers Peak Center, a 500,000 square foot shopping center in Colorado Springs anchored by Home Depot, as well as several other specialty and grocery anchored centers.
Sittema is a graduate of Purdue University where he earned his bachelor’s and master’s of science in civil engineering. He also earned an MBA at the University of Colorado. He and his wife recently moved to Charlotte and have four children.
