Crosland’s McCorkle Named CAA President, Wins ‘Instructor of the Year’ Award

Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 27, 2006 – Mindy McCorkle, operations manager for the apartments division of Crosland Inc., recently received dual honors from the Charlotte Apartment Association at its annual meeting: she was elected president of the organization for 2006, and won the association’s inaugural Instructor of the Year Award.

The award is based on feedback from participants in the CAA’s ongoing professional development classes, which are taught by volunteer members who are willing to share their time for the benefit of their peers and to further the professionalism of the apartment industry.

McCorkle taught classes on industry certification and fair housing practices. In prior years, she has won the CAA’s Manager of the Year and Work Horse awards. McCorkle is the third CAA president to come from within the Crosland organization, following in the steps of division president Jud Little and regional property manager Charlie Henley. McCorkle was first appointed to the CAA board in 1999, served as treasurer in 2004 and as vice president in 2005.

“These honors reflect Mindy’s commitment to training and professional development, a commitment shared by Crosland as an organization, so we could not be more pleased to see her earn this recognition,” said Little. “As an individual and as an association, she and the CAA work hard to promote the vital role that apartments play in supporting Charlotte’s economy.”

Within Crosland’s apartments division, McCorkle is responsible for recruiting and training, corporate marketing, policy and procedure revisions and implementation. She also serves as a regional property manager. A native of Rock Hill, S.C., she attended Central Piedmont Community College.

The Charlotte Apartment Association is a trade association for the multifamily rental housing industry, focusing its efforts on education, legislation and information. Among its current initiatives is a proposal before the city of Charlotte to reduce homelessness among the working poor by placing them in vacant apartments, waiving rental security deposits for hundreds of low-income families. The program would be implemented in conjunction with Crisis Assistance Ministry.
