| | | Wal-Mart Supercenter to Anchor Shoppes at Black DiamondTampa, Fla., Oct. 1, 2007 –Crosland LLC, one of the Southeast’s leading diversified real estate firms, has landed a Wal-Mart Supercenter as the lead anchor tenant for the Shoppes at Black Diamond in Citrus County. In addition to the Wal-Mart Supercenter, three national-brand junior anchors – Ross, a pet supply center, and an arts and crafts retailer – have signed letters of intent for the regional power center, which is zoned for 400,000 square feet of retail.
Construction is expected to begin in June 2008, with the first stores opening in May 2009.
The Shoppes at Black Diamond is a 43-acre retail center at the intersection of W. Norvell Bryant Highway (CR-486) and N. Lecanto Highway (CR-491). Located in the suburbs of north Tampa, the regional power center will serve approximately 135,000 residents. It is adjacent to Black Diamond, a 1,300-acre community with 45 holes of private golf, including Tom Fazio’s acclaimed Quarry course, which is ranked among the nation’s top 100 and No. 2 in the state by Golf Digest.
The Wal-Mart Supercenter at the Shoppes at Black Diamond is a new design that will feature Mediterranean architecture and a smaller footprint at 148,000 square feet (typical Wal-Mart Supercenters exceed 200,000 square feet). That architecture will carry throughout the rest of the shopping center.
“The Shoppes at Black Diamond is in one of the fastest-growing areas of Citrus County, so we expect that the commitment of Wal-Mart and the junior anchors will accelerate our tenant leasing efforts for the planned 30,000 square feet of lifestyle-oriented retail,” said Mike Wiggins, senior vice president of Crosland’s retail division. “Residents have been clamoring for sit-down restaurants, and we expect to have our first contract on that front shortly as well.”
