We have a legacy of creating innovative communities and seek projects that allow us to integrate sustainable development practices. Please read more about our recent efforts below:

Biltmore Park Town Square
Biltmore Park Town Square – Asheville, NC
This project is participating in USGBC's LEED-ND pilot project to develop Neighborhood Development standards. The high-density, mixed use community conserves land, reduces driving, encourages walking, and better manages stormwater run-off, therefore it illustrates environmentally-friendly, energy efficient, and sustainable development standards. For more information on this project, please visit www.shopbiltmorepark.com or www.liveatbiltmorepark.com.

Homestead PreserveHomestead Preserve – Hot Springs, VA Shortly after acquiring the land, the first act was to convey 9,250 acres of the 11,500-plus acre landholding to The Nature Conservancy and another 935 acres to the Virginia Outdoors Foundation so the pristine landscapes and ridges would be preserved in perpetuity. Only 450 homes will be built, even though the land could have supported more than 2,700 under existing zoning. Each lot has a defined building envelope of up to 15,000 square feet, outside of which little or no land disturbance or clearing is permitted. At its completion, no more than 3% of the original 11,500 acres will have been touched by development activity. Homestead Preserve, a joint venture between Celebration Associates and Crosland, also established the Virginia Hot Springs Preservation Trust which provides educational programs, research opportunities, coordinates land management and conservation activities, and provides services and funding. Bundoran Farm, Sustainable DevelopmentBundoran Farm – Charlottesville, VA Comprised of 2,300 acres of rolling countryside 10 miles south of Charlottesville, Bundoran is a working farm and a pristine model of rural development. All areas of the farm under productive agricultural operations are reserved through an agricultural easement. Under guidance from a farm management committee and an on-site Natural Resources Manager, the farmer is allowed use of this land for cattle, orchard, or other approved use, under practices approved by the developer and Audubon International specifically for Bundoran Farm. This joint venture between Qroe Farm Preservation Development, Celebration Associates, Crosland and The Springs Company will be the first Virginia community which is certified Audubon International Signature Sanctuary Program at the Gold Level. The partnership has established the Baldwin Center for Preservation Development which is dedicated to the advancement of the most up-to-date techniques in environmental land use, sustainable growth patterns and agricultural preservation; all as demonstrated by the Bundoran Farm project. It will be a gathering place for local and farm related concerns, helping to enlighten, encourage and inform regarding Preservation Development and the practical side of sustainability, environmental action and the role of the farm in modern life To learn more, please visit www.bundoranfarm.com.

Whitewater – Charlotte, NC This 778-acre sustainable master planned community adjacent to the U.S. National Whitewater Center will incorporate up to 2,800 homes, townhomes and apartments with neighborhood retail, schools and office space. We are partnering with Audubon International Signature Sanctuary Program at the Gold Level to preserve as much of the tree canopy as possible by creating wildlife corridors. Whitewater will blend new native plantings into the existing landscape, reducing the need for constant watering and the HOA will administer a lawn fertilization program to minimize impact on area’s surface water.
