Crosland opened its Tennessee Division in May 2005, with the acquisition of Armistead Barkley, Inc., one of Nashville’s most respected real estate development firms specializing in urban revitalization. The new division, headed by Bill Barkley, as president, and Steve Armistead, as senior vice-president, is Crosland’s latest move in its ongoing Southeastern expansion. Based in Nashville, one of the hottest growth cities in the Southeast, Crosland plans to play a significant role in shaping the city’s future. Mixed-use development is one of Crosland’s strengths, and Armistead Barkley’s strong capabilities in urban development and adaptive re-use complement Crosland’s extensive retail development and leasing expertise. Armistead Barkley was a founding developer of The Gulch, one of Nashville’s most celebrated urban redevelopment projects. The Gulch is a 30-acre, $400 million, mixed-use development just inside Nashville’s downtown core. When completed, The Gulch will offer 350,000 to 400,000 square feet of retail space, 750,000 to 1 million square feet of office space, 100,000 square feet of hospitality space and 2 million square feet of residential space. Twenty percent of the residences will be affordable housing, which is a long-established strength of Crosland and Armistead Barkley. The new Crosland office is located on the top floor of the historic L&C Tower in downtown Nashville.
